These musical pieces are each self-contained, perhaps like a singular haiku, though they were channeled and developed all within the same time period thus constitute
the personality of a full album. ..a complete book of musical poetry if you will.
Some of the pieces feature westernized haiku along with them.
This collection was composed intuitively and
recorded in 2011 which was inspired by my dear friend and composer Melissa Weed.
Some of these works have been orchestrated while others
remain in their original raw form.
When fitting to do so, I enjoy taking simple heartfelt melodies and orchestrating them.
The process is deceptively simple. The skill of craft for me comes by way of the selection of just the right instrumentation to support and intertwine with the piece; the art comes by way of when the additional instruments come in; when shouldn't they? Is there proper support and dialogue? Over the time arc of the piece how does it breathe?
These are questions a composer must ask to help imbue a work with an artistic identity; we must consider the delicate nature of the fall offs or attack of the notes, the touch, metering.
In the end, if one is successful, you may be rewarded with a nice little musical painting
of the poetry and ideas you began with, though which has a life of its own.
